Letter from Dr. Thomas L. Smith, D.C.
Dear Patient:
All too often it is the doctor who gets all of the information about the patient, and the patient gets very little information about the doctor and his practice. I would like to change that.
My full name is Thomas Lee Smith, and I was born in Des Moines, Iowa. I attended chiropractic college at Palmer College located in Davenport, Iowa, graduating in June 1993. I have a son. I like to swim, bike, and lift weights. Learning how to have good health in my 20’s has led me to enjoy participating in physical activity.
I decided to become a chiropractor after receiving great results from chiropractic treatment. At one point in my life, I had been suffering from incessant headaches for five or six years and had been taking Tylenol like candy. When a lower back injury from moving a friend’s refrigerator caused constant pain and numbness for two weeks, someone who cared about me suggested I go to a chiropractor.
With treatments for the chiropractor, not only did the lower back pain go away, but so did those constant headaches. I was ecstatic! I began working for that chiropractor and noticed how much he enjoyed his work and how much his patients liked coming to see him. I knew then, that this was my calling.
I’ve chosen to devote my life to the healing arts so that I can pass on that same gift. It is a wonderful life to help someone discover that his or her body has amazing abilities to heal with an adjustment or the right nutrients. My work is very rewarding because I don’t just help heal spines; I also help heal lives.
I believe with all my heart in the principles of alternative healing, which can be stated as: The body has the capacity to heal if the roadblocks to healing are removed.
I believe in how I practice and continually strive to improve it. I want to give excellent service for a fair fee. I want to help people. I want my patient to refer others to me so that I can help them experience a healthy life again, not weighed down by increasingly toxic drugs or needless surgeries.
Through this office, my patients can begin to attain health in a true holistic sense. What seems to make this practice unique us how we integrate all aspects or experiences of our patients to make them “whole” again – the meaning of holistic health. My personal promise to you is that when you are ready to make those changes that will enable you to reach your full potential, we will be here to help you make yourself whole again. We will help you remove obstacles and give you the tools to reach good health.
